Craig Dean- This is the life

The titles appear at the begining of the film, with a establishing shot of the kitchen and a family sitting on the table which makes you feel part of the film. Further there is a sense of realism within the short film e.g. kitchen sink gives us a hint that its a British film about white working class people.

The hand held camera draws the audience in being part of the storyline also there is a close up shot of the mothers face which signifies here emotions and feelings. Furthermore there are elements of non diagetic sound, slow melancholy music starts also the music overlaps within two scenes. We also notice a strong bonded relationship with the brother and the sister we realise that the sister is like a parent figure to her brother.

We see rubbish outside there house which gives us a hint the family is not very affluent. There are also various camera angle shots such as shot reverse shot of the father and son talking, low angle shot, static shot signifies awkwardness between father and son. The short movie 'This is the life encourages the audience to reconnect with family which is the most pivotal thing. Also the story line is about a man and his son reuniting to make a life of joy and bliss.
